Village Reconstruction Organisation, familiarly known as VRO, was founded on June 6th, 1969 in the wake of disastrous floods in Coastal Andhra Pradesh especially around Guntur, Krishna and Prakasam Districts. It was registered as Village Reconstruction Organisation on 6th October, 1971. The Original aim was to extend relief and rehabilitation measures to the victims of endemic natural calamities such as cyclones, and floods in the East Coast Region of South India. To start with, it was a Relief Organisation which in the later years became a development-oriented Organisation. It is a secular, non-profit voluntary organisation.

In the beginning, VRO’s Services are in the States of Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Pondichery, Maharashtra & Odisha. At present, the service presence is confined to the East Coast States of Andhra Pradesh, Telagana, Tamilnadu and Odisha periodically affected by natural calamities.
